lamb and tip

Today I walked in the Biesbosch, during this walk we saw a lot of sheeps and lambs.
I like to photograph animals, because they are so patient and seem to don't mind.
I would love to photograph people too: streetphotography, because you see so many interesting characters out there. But I don't have the right attitude for that, I'm too shy.

Here's a tip for a short movie about Bruce Gilden He does have a very cheeky attitude, It's funny and he makes very interesting pictures, but as I said, he's very cheeky.

Bokito

It's almost 4 years ago now, Bokito escaped from his cage in the Rotterdam Zoo.
He attacked a woman who had challenged him for weeks. Bokito got very angry and jumped over the water to grab this woman. Every time I see him I must think of this fascinating story and imagine angry wild Bokito runs around in our Zoo. He has a new cage now, behind glass. You can see the story about his escape here

red cheeks factory

This week I started with the second pika bootcamp:
how to survive and thrive as an artist online
the first assignment is to make up a name, an avatar and a banner for a possible shop.
So this is the birth of 'red cheeks factory'

chairs

This weeks assignment was about chairs, which chair represents your personality, so the whole week I had chairs in my mind, never thought it was interesting to think about chairs, but it was, one chair was not enough for me :-) I also found a special art-chair-blog with pictures of all kind of chairs.

bananas

This weeks theme of the pika artist bootcamp: Art that moves and the element of time.
Inspired by "past, present and future"

past: my grandpa used to bring bananas on wednesday,
present: a jump, I took the banana-theme also into this and the next illustration.
future: reunited with my mom on a cloud.

Cirque C.

This weeks theme of the pika artist bootcamp Learning and borrowing from history. We went to a museum to choose one painting for inspiration. I went to the Chabot museum and chose Die Armen from Heinrich Campendonk I was inspired by his composition and the play between fore- and background. I made this illustration.

In the gemeente museum Den Haag is an exhibition of James Ensor
an overview of his whole oeuvre. I really liked his paper mache masks.

inspiration: the Caldic Collection

Yesterday I was in de Kunsthal Rotterdam and saw the Caldic Collection A selection of over eighty paintings, photographs, installations and sculptures that have all been purchased over the last ten years. Very nice to see, so many different things. These pictures are from an installation of plastic bags filled with water hanging on the ceiling and a moving kite projected on the wall

This weeks assignment of the pika artist bootcamp was to think about
and list the things we know and love, with the aim of finding
a more personal creative voice. Juggling and people were my choices.
The instruction was to make the same illustration in three different ways:
pen and ink: was quit new to me, but fun to do!

Good to see that each material has it's own quality and characteristics!

landscape

this week I started with the pika artist bootcamp, a six-week on-line course.
We are starting by deconstructing what makes a good work of art, inspired by nature. People are joining from all over the world. It's a source of inspiration and challenges me to make different things as I normally do. For example this landscape. I never do landscapes (I'm in love with faces) I'm curious how this develops.
Till now I like it very much!

silence

I made this picture during a walk from Baarn to Hollandse Rading.
There was a kind of very tiny small lake, beautiful silence,
sunshine and this cane reflected into the water. It was beautiful!

Today the postman delivered this little parcel in my mailbox:
the suitcase series of Camilla Engman
I'm happy, cause I'm a big fan of her. I had to wait a couple of weeks,
but it's really a great book. With a lot of work from her inside.
I'm eager to read it :-) She also has a very interesting and inspiring blog

spring is coming!

This early morning when I was cycling in the city, I could hear the birds sing.
There were a lot of them. It inspired me to make this 'spring is coming' illustration.
It's in the air :-)

Today the postman brought the catalogue of Pictorale 2010
4th festival of illustration-art. This year a part of the exhibition was about Carll Cneut He's one of my favourite illustrators. Unfortunately I was too late to visit the exhibition, but fortunately I have the book now :-)

Grow a beard for Belgium One of Belgium's best-known actors, Benoit Poelvoorde, has urged his fellow citizens not to shave again until the country finally forms a government.
